Our Engagement
TOOK FOREVER TO HAPPEN!
No, seriously. We planned like half the wedding before we actually got engaged!
Josh really wanted to surprise Rachel, but since she wanted to pick out/design her own ring, they both knew that it wouldn't be a total surprise. Still, that didn't stop Josh from trying his hardest to pull one over Rachel. He really seemed to enjoy the process!
Example #1 - Rachel got an email from Josh asking if they were free on Saturday night. When she said that they were, he told her not to make plans, he was taking her out, and that she should "look pretty". Multiple times during the evening, he faked being nervous, hid what he was bringing with him and checked his shirt pocket for something small like he was worried he'd lose something important. Finally when Rachel asked what was in his pocket, he broke out into a fake-sinister laugh and said, "nothing - I'm just playing with you!" :)
Example #2 - on a semi-regular basis, Josh and Rachel would be out for a walk when Josh would stop and bend down to "tie his shoes". When Rachel found herself a few steps ahead of him, she'd turn around and find him on one knee, pretending to be ready to propose. No kidding, he did that about 4 times!
Example #3 - he snuck into Rachel's work and left her flowers on her desk. For no reason other than to "keep her on her toes". Ok, no complaints about that one! :)
Example #4 - getting ready to go out for sushi on a random weeknight, Josh walked into the room where Rachel was sitting, said, "I've got a question for you", acted nervous and hesitant - and then started to get down on one knee....and said, "Will you.....go out for sushi with me? Don't hit me." (note, never was she going to hit him - it was a preemptive defense mechanism, for knowing he was being annoying)
Example #5- Josh reached around in his dresser drawer, frantically looking for something. "You moved it??" he accused Rachel. "What is he talking about?" Rachel thought. "OH - stop it," she said aloud. There was no ring in there. She hadn't found it and she really hadn't moved it. He was just playing with her again.
SO....want to know what ultimately happened?? On the morning of Nov. 21, 2011, Josh woke Rachel up and urged her to come see something in his office (but to brush her teeth first!). Then he showed her this video:

Fun, but... not very romantic, right? That's because it was Josh's final trick - as soon as that video stopped playing, this one started:
On the first watching, Rachel missed the end of the video, because she was distracted by the fact that Josh was down on one knee, and following the cues on the video, asking her to marry him. To which she replied, "Yes. And also, yes!"
And there was much hugging and kissing and family-calling... and then they both ran off to do work. Ah, the perils of a weekday morning engagement!
